Question:

Will a Chevy Silverado have any problems pulling a 24foot Airstream Trailer?

What recomendations can be given so the Trailer Pickup won‘t start wagging down the interstate.

Answer:

It should have no problem its good to order a trailer tow pkg. when you buy a vehicle This consists of oil and transmission fluid coolers a larger radiator an lower gear ratio , An Airstream is a well designed trailer and with use of a proper Sway Control Hitch you should have No Problems Good Luck
To old cost more than it's worth.
transaxle is a tranny. i would say your tranny is shot. i am getting my tranny replace now and it going to cost around 1200 to do it. everyone will have a different price, so the best thing to do is to call around you area and see if they can give you a rough estimate. if they don't give you an estimate don't go to them. all places know an around figure for the work that needs to be done.
The pickup can handle it, but what about the engine, is it too small. I think the Silverado has the 700R-4 tranny, just keep it out of OD unless on the reall flats. we pull one with a Silverado and only a 305 engine and don't even notice the trailer being back there. I would have liked a bigger engine for hills though.
a 24ft trailer is a bit much for a 1/2 ton but no problem for a 3/4 ton truck. for towing you need to consider your engine, brakes, coolin systems [ engine and tranny], tires, suspension systems, trailer brakes, and trailer tongue weight. its all part of a system that has to work together. i would advise a tranny cooler, equalizing hitch, good tires, working trailer brakes [ you would be suprised to find out how many of them don't work] and pay close attention to your tongue weight. you have to have at least 10% of the total trailer weight on the ball or you will have stability problems. check it with the trailer loaded and the tanks full. be careful if your water tanke and your waste tanks are on opposite ends. it they are check your weight with the aft tank full and the front tank empty. to much weight aft will cause severe whipping and can throw you out of control. your rig may weigh 4 to 5000 lbs so you would need at least 400 to 500 lbs on the ball at least and 5 to 600 would be better. once you have the rig balenced then use your transfer bars to reduce the load on the truck. i cannot warn too much about the importance of enough tongue weight, its important.
