How do you take out a valve stem?
no, the cap for the valve stem is designed to keep dirt out not hold air in ! there is a special tool that removes the valve stem, and some manufacturers have cleverly placed it on the top of the stem cap(so you would remove the cap ,turn it upside down and the metal tool will fit into the valve and unscrew the stem.), otherwise you can get one at the tire dealer or SEARS ,It's about the size of a pencil
No. The cap just keeps dirt, debris and moisture out of the valve stem and core. If you remove the valve core (it screws out with a special tool) then yes, your tire will go flat in a big hurry. To remove the complete valve stem as a unit there is a tool that screws on to the end that you can use to rip it out of the wheel. A new stem has to then be inserted from inside the wheel requiring the tire to be dismounted.
A valve stem and valve stem cap are two different things. If you have a good valve stem, you do not need a valve stem cap. People just use then for safety. You remove a valve stem, with would you believe, a valve stem remover, or some caps have a two pointed top that will remove the stem. Now where to buy them, most old fashion gas station, auto parts, or bike shops, even WalMart.
NO, The valve cap is only used to keep dirt and debree from going inside the valve stem. If dirt or other particles of debree go inside where the valve core is when you air up the tire the dirt could lodge between the core and then it will leak air causing the tire to go flat. To remove a tire valve core, there is a special tool that you put inside of the valve stem and then you unscrew it out. To remove a valve stem you have to brake the tire bead push down on the side where the stem is and with the special tool screw it on to the stem and pulling it out. Reason why you have to brake the bead is that you have to replace it with a new one from inside of the wheel.
