Question:

Will duct tape melt or burn if I use it to cover a heating vent?

I have an old heating system and it blows out the hottest and dirtiest smoke when we turn the heat onMy bedroom used to be a dining room so it has a huge vent and makes my room stifling hot in a matter of secondsThe vent is old, like everything else so I can't slide the hinge to shut it- trying to do so moves it from barely in place, to completely off, revealing a scary depth of dark and dirtyI've folded up a cardboard box and taped it to the wall, covering the vent, and after a few days the heat just blew it right offNow I have a dresser in front of the vent but it doesn't block the heat enoughI bought heavy duty black duct tape and want to really tape this mess upWill the tape melt and cause a bad odor? Since nothing has burnt before, I don't think I have to worry about a fire- though I will always be here when the heats on just in caseDo I have any cause to worry? OR can anyone suggest something BETTER?

Answer:

Did you move in your dorm yet? You truly have to convince her.Buy her the most gorgeous flowers, sit her down and tell her to please not cryExplain to her that she is the only girl you ever want to be with and you will visit whenever you get the chanceYou should suggest that you will video chat with her, and have webcam datesMake her heart melt like the first date you guys went onJust make sure you stick to your word, and you don't find another girl!
First of all, you sound very sincereI doubt she has anything to worry aboutSecond of all, YOU can only do so muchIf you tell her this, over and over, and she still isn't getting it - then there is nothing more you can do besides keep going and letting her SEE that you are seriousPeople like your girlfriend have trust issues for one reason or another, and the person on the other side can only do so muchMy one piece of advice is not to give into these trust issues; in other words, go to college and let her see that there isn't anything to worry aboutDon't carry the weight of her trust issues on her shouldersIt will benefit her to figure this out on her ownThe only way for people to overcome these kinds of issues is to expose themselves to the source of their fears - which means SHE will have to make it a point to trust you; you cannot make it a point for her to trust youGood luck.
Wow I'm in your same situation right now except I'm the girl! Weird! The guy I've been dating is moving 3 hours away to college and I am going to be a senior in high schoolAnd that same thing has been going though my mind - that he is going to find someone else for sure, I mean, college is huge and there are tons of girls for him to be interested inI'm freaking out inside but I haven't told him that yetYou should just tell her exactly how much she means to you, why she is special and how she is way better than any other girl you have ever metAnd tell her that even if the long distance relationship doesn't end up working out, that you still want to keep in touch with her tell her that things might work out again a few years down the roadDuring the long distance relationship- you should also write her a letter every week or so and occasionally send presentsIf you have a webcam you can also videochat - of course its not the same as being with her but at least you get to see her while your talking to herI wish you the best of luckYou sound very sincere and if you tell her everything from your heart, hopefully she will trust youAnd you better not be interested in other girls! ;)
I wouldn't use duct tape, because over time, probably one day, it will kind of melt, be sticky, may drip down, just a freakin messWhy don't you try a piece of cardboard cut to size, and wrap it with aluminum foil about 3 or 4 timesThe heat certainly won't hurt the aluminum foil and the hole will be plugged up nicely, you probably could then even put the vent back on it, so it didn't look rigged upYou could also take that vent cover outside and put a coat of spray paint on itIt'll look like you got a new oneGood luck.
