will leaving a gas stove on for long time cause carbon monoxide detector to go off?

Answer:

Gloves, safety glasses and use a spatula for transferring the solid granules/crystals.
There's no reason the GLS shouldn't be able to take 15s. A GLI Jetta or GTI Golf might not, depending on if it had any optional brake packages I'd guess, but any of the others will be perfectly fine.
