Will you get the same results with a cooking bag as you would cooking something wrapped in aluminum foil?
This Site Might Help YouRE: How much insulation value does drywall add? We need to replace some drywall in our basementI also wanted to make an improvement to our insulation, because our basement gets really cold in the winterSpace is at a premium, so I don't want to add too much thickness which will protrude into our living spaceMy idea was to just slap.
Replace SOME drywall? save your moneyRedo or forget itAdding 1/2 drywall will give you an R-value of.hmmm.0 Look into Iso spray foam insulation
Drywall is chalk boardThere is no R value to drywall Seeing that the walls are open and that insulation only has to be on the outside facing walls - you must have some kind of framework there whether it be 2x4 on the flat or 2x2 to nail the drywall to.you could put 2 styrofoam board behind the drywall and not lose anything so to speak Otherwise you will continue to freeze your azz off.
I would strip off the old drywall and glue or power nail 2x2 vertical furring strips to the wall at 2 foot intervals, then put 2 inch foam board between the furring stripsNow put heavy plastic sheeting over that then dry wall2x2 furring strips would be 1 5/8 so adding half inch dry wall over that would give you only a little more than 2 inches of reduced space but it would be a lot of extra insulation and the plastic sheeting will be a great vapor barrierYou might try foaming the foam board in with great stuff or some other foaming insulationAlso you can use the 2 inches to add electrical outlets running the wires behind the foam boardGood Luck
I usually use aluminum foil in place of a bag - it works perfectly!
