Question:

Windshield wipers dont work.?

I have a ‘91 volvo 240. My winshield wipers weren‘t working, so first i tried replacing the fuse and that didn‘t work, then i tried loosening the nuts (or is it bolts) and that didnt work either. so i went online and read somewhere (i can‘t remember where) to try tapping on the motor with a wrench or something. so i did that and they are now working. But what does that mean, does it mean eventually i will need a new motor or something? and if you have any ballpark idea on what they cost, for the motor and labor, let me know. thanks

Answer:

it's either a bad (loose) electrical connection to the wiper motor, or more likely a bad motor. labor motor could run near $200 depending upon where you are located. -ken
they aren't that expensive.50 bucks should cover everythingspray some wd40 around the motor where it turns.
This seems to be the question that i come across most often. The problem is that most manufacturers use the motor mounting screws as their ground. These screws corrode and eventually do not supply enough contact for the motor to work properly. The reason that hitting the motor works for a while is because you have made a contact come back a little bit. The sure-fire cure is to attach a small wire to the negative side of your battery or a really good chassis ground and attach it to one of the mounting screws on the wiper motor. You will not believe the difference. You can try it first with a piece of wire and an assistant holding the other end. The only real downfall is that the motor is damaged from not having correct ground for so long that it will likely only last 6 months. I have fixed very many systems this way
