Question:

windshield wipers?

could someone PLEASE! help me with a problem im having with my windshield wipers?this all started all at once.my wipers started skipping across the windshield. i went and purchased new wipers. they are doing the same thing!!i have tried a few things as told by different auto parts stores (waxing my windshield with turtle wax, pure dish detergent, pouring coca-cola over it) but none of these have worked.ANY SUGGESTIONS??

Answer:

That's a tough one but I think I have the answer. I have had this problem a couple of times on one of my cars that I have owned. One reason they do this is because as a car gets driven over the roads they become sandblasted by other cars making the wipers not work as effectively. The windshield get pitted and unsmooth so the wipers don't work as well. Another thought you might not be getting the right size for your car. When in doubt try more than one size when you are at the parts store. Mismatched wipers can skip just like ones that are worn out. I would suggest using rain-x on your windshield. I have used it a lot and it works great if it is put on properly. If you put it on right you won't have to use your wipers very much. Good luck.
The first thing I can think of is there is some sort of film on the glass surface that is causing the wiper to skip. Try washing the windshield with Windex or another cleaner with ammonia. This should get the glass surface clean. Don't put anything on it and try the wipers. If they still skip try detailers clay. This will clean the surface and get any contaminants out of it. If that doesn't work then it could be the wipers, tension on the arms etc. Take your car to an auto parts store when it's raining and see if someone can come out to the car and diagnose the problem.
If you only purchased the rubber part then you haven't fixed the tension required to press the blades onto the windshield. You may be able to bend them about midway of the wiper arm. Otherwise, you may need to buy a whole new assembly.
