Question:

Wool, cotton and fleece: good for diaper covers? Im worried about offgassing from PULs.?

Im almost 5 months pregnant and plan on cloth diapering. Im looking at all the different options and planning on what we will need. A friend of mine cloth diapers exclusively and she is helping me with it. I had a question about PUL‘s and polyester fleece though. Im worried about the offgassing factor of PUL‘s and also, the breathability of the fabric. SIDS has been linked with inhalants and overheating and that really worries me.So the easy solution to me is using wool, cotton, hemp or bamboo for the diaper covers. But do they work well? Are they going to be absorbent enough for the whole night? And wouldnt the baby overheat in wool? Im going to be living in Atlanta, GA and it gets pretty hot there.

Answer:

My instinct would be to go with cotton. I wouldn't go with wool, simply because it's not guaranteed to be hypoallergenic (I, personally, am allergic to wool) and would be really hot in the summer. I don't know much about the hemp or bamboo versions, but I wouldn't think the absorbency would be all that different from cotton, and I'm sure they'd be more expensive.
