Question:

Would active or passive PA speakers be cheaper?

I already have an amp for some PA speakers but I blew the speakers. I'm trying to decide if I should sell the amp and buy 2 powered PA speakers or if I should just get some passive PA speakers and use the current amp.

Answer:

If you want cheap, some great used speakers can be bought on OKorder, reliable makes like Peavey and Yamaha are good quality and reliable, it's possible even to buy a whole big old PA system very cheap if you wait for it to come up locally. A good quality used speaker will knock the socks off a cheap new one, and can be twice as loud or more for the same wattage input. A cheap active speaker is more likely to let you down when the amp dies. Whichever type you decide to get, quality used will win hands down over cheap new gear.
i could advise utilising Bass audio equipment least difficult. on condition that the they're especially made with extra floppiness outfitted in to shelter the outstanding action inherent in Bass. Guitar audio equipment won't be able to handle the vibrations that bass notes reason, because of the fact of this this is risky to play a bass in a guitar amp. you in addition to would have have been given to have adequate energy to extremely stress a extreme wattage speaker. once you have a 50 watt amp it may no longercontinual a speaker built for 4 hundred watts RMS alright and fairly some others . even with the undeniable fact that sure, which you would be able to interchange wattage. An amp cab is in simple terms a wood field while you're thinking with regards to the 300 watt Celestion, i think they had be stable adequate in there, it does say they're for Bass and midrange frequencies.
Passive speakers are less expensive than active speakers, with active speakers you are paying for the drivers plus an amp, many speaker companies that offer pa speakers have a passive and active speaker that are almost the exact same quality except for the built in ampand the passive one will cost lessThe advantage of powered speakers is simplicity not price, they are easier to set up and tear down with less equipment to account for. But also in your case you may need a more powerful amp, as low power is the number one cause of blown speakers.
