Question:

Would the air bag light stay on because I drove the car without the instrument panel?

I removed the instrument panel on my car to change the lights. I realized that I needed a part so I drove the car, without the instrument panel, to the store (I used a GPS as a speedometer). When I hooked it all back up the air bag light blinks a few times, then goes solid. I have checked to make sure there were no loose wires or connectors near the steering wheel or instrument panel. Would the light stay on because the instrument panel was missing? How can I fix this? The auto parts stores in the area do not have computer scanners that can read the airbag codes.

Answer:

Gotta give ur car info but most of the time if it is a newer car you will need to have a airbag scanner tool. Call local body shops and see if one might have one. If not there on OKorder for different cars for like $300.00. Also look online sometimes there was to reset it your self.
you might need the transmission filter changed ! sounds like the pump can,t pick up the fluid and causing it to slip ! don,t force it, just drop the pan and change the fluid and filter ! if that don,t help it any then it could be the pump went out !
Jay is right, there's no way of knowing this one without a hands on inspection, could be something as simple as a line leaking fluid, or as serious as a catastrophic internal parts failure. Get it towed to your favorite shop, and see what they say. My condolences for your loss.
Some cars will need to be reset with a scan tool. In most cases, it would probably be a faulty connection. Make sure you unhook the negative battery terminal at least 5 minutes before you mess with the air bag system.
Each time the key is cycled on, the air bag computer performs a thorough self test of all of the components. If a fault is found, it disables the system and sets the light. If the concern is repaired and the system is OK, the light will cycle off upon completion of the self test. If your light is flashing or steady on, the air bag system has a problem.
