Question:

would you fall to your death in a cable car / chair lift if the cable snapped?

have been on a few before, always get a lil nervous only at the thought of the cable snapping, is there a back up cable that would stop you plummiting death????

Answer:

no, i don't believe there is a backup cable. i believe you would just plummet and die.
Hasta okorder e to think of it, I guess it's also why ST. Bernards carry them too... In case you live.... Or did I watch too much Bugs Bunny as a kid..
It all depends on the scenario. The height of the fall and what you hit when you land, if you hit snow you will probably survive but if you just hit the ground then your dead.
Absolutely. My wife has the same fear. If that cable were to snap, you would likely fall to your death. But you really shouldn't worry. There are laws which govern the design and inspection of those cars and lifts. You should feel as safe on a cable car as you would on a suspension bridge or any other type of transportation infrastructure. Accidents do happen, but you're more likely to get killed in an auto accident.
