We need to get rid of a nice large sofa that's only two years old. The sofa is so large that our movers hoisted it up to the third floor rear porch using moving straps.
Even if you get someone to take this for free, there's going to be potential liability involved if it falls and injures someone coming down. I doubt this used couch has enough value left to make this worthwhile. I'd be inclined to do like you say - dismantle it in pieces, and carry it to the dumpster.
you could try calling local churches to see if they would be interested in it for a needy family. they would probably pay someone to move it.
