I am a Real Estate agent and I was on a home inspection with a client today that revealed that there was Vermiculite insulation in the attic.I'm wondering if anybody on here has any informed information regarding the topic and if they are familiar with the processes and costs of abatement. Also, does anybody know what the testing procedure is and how accurate it is???
on Randolph about 4-6 blocks west of Halstead on the north side of the street. It's an old garden store that has huge sacks of the stuff. Also try Brew and Grow Alternative Garden Supply, 773-395-1500. They have been carrying it in bags for $24.95. Also, as a last resort, start checking with the Swimming Pool Installation Companies in your area. The companies that install Vinyl Lined Swimming Pools use Vermiculite as a soft base for the Vinyl liners. They have large bags of the stuff on hand, and might be willing to let go of a couple of bags now that their busy season is over.
That's bizarre. Maybe they're all temporarily out of stock because we're heading into winter. Try calling around to dedicated garden stores or nurseries. They are more likely to have small supplies in the off-season than places like Target and Wal-Mart, which only carry gardening supplies as seasonal items. The nursery near me still has vermiculite, though that doesn't help you, as I'm not near Chicago. Get out your yellow pages and start calling. It's possible you'll be out of luck until they get their new shipments in late winter/early spring. If you still strike out, you may have to resort to online mail-order. Or just wait a few months.
Lowes alway has it here in North Carolina year round. Its outside in the garden department. Here it is on an aisle end by the decorative pots. It is a small to medium size bag. If you need bigger bags your local garden center probably will be happy to order it for you.
