Question:

wrapping pipes for insulation - how to do, who to hire?

I have a water heater and have heard I should wrap the six feet nearest the heater to better insulate? How do I do this, and if I am not handy, who would I hire?

Answer:

His teeth are probably too long and so hes trying to wear them down you may need to get a special thing for him to chew on.
Swap out his hammock in case he is actually eating itWhile ferret digestive tracks are pretty mcuh a tube they Can be clogged relatively easily if they are eating the wrong thingsTry a new hammock and carefully continue to monitor his behavior and eating habitsIf you have not been playing with him he could be getting cage frenzy, but aside from a mental health issue (always hard to diagnose in pets) it's more likely that he is still eating and everything is going to be fineThat being said, consult your ferret health book (I have Ferrets For Dummies, love it) and if you continue to be concerned contact your vet - many will give you advice on the phone just for screening purposes or to suggest that yo uneed to bring him in sooner than later
Maybe he's ruttingYou know how the females go into heat? Well males will have a similar thing called ruttingTheir testicles will swell and they will eat less because of the hormonal changesIf he's neutered though then that can't be the caseHe could just be stressed outHave you gotten him a new cage or is this hammock new? If so maybe try removing it and see if he starts eating againEither way, chewing up his hammock can't be good for himI would try and find something safe for him to chew on that will catch his attention more than his hammock.
Not only should you wrap the pipes, but you should wrap the actual heater as well.Along with the pipe insulation strips that you'll be needing to purchase, but you should also consider purchasing a hot water heater blanket/cover as wellYou can find them in the Plumbing Debtat any Home Depot, Lowe's or your local hardware storeAll you would need to do is wrap it entirely around your water heater.kind of like a jacket or coat. This aides in your water heater not having to reheat its standing water as often. You might want to give it a try. It's worth the $20.00 + investment.
