Are you more like a &firecracker& or &fire extinguisher&?

Answer:

Clothes dryers are equipped with limit switches for safety. These are the football-shaped sensors attached to the hot air exhaust. They have two or more wires attached to them. They contain discs of different metals that react to different temperatures. Basically, if the airway gets too hot, the metal disc will expand or contract which opens the circuit to the heating element or gas regulator depending on if your machine is gas or electric. This would explain why your machine works for a bit, then shuts off. What you can do is remove the hose from the rear of the machine and remove any lint build-up. Then put it back on and try it again. It should work fine after that.
Is the dog afraid of the detector itself or the sound it makes? If your grandma's smoke detector is going off, you should ALL be scared. I'm guessing that it is chirpinga low battery signalis that right? If so, my now deceased dog hated that too. The sound is piercing to dogs.
Never buy anything from door-to-door solicitors. He sounds half legit considering he actually signed you up with the companies. He probably just got his commission. You should still get credit monitoring though.
