Question:

Which bulldozer guy should I choose for my property?

I have about 1 acre of former choppy pasture, I first hired an excavator with small dozer guy who left it hacked up, now I want a perfect flat yard and smooth hill and dale. The yard goes right up to the house. I can hire a guy with a brand new D5 (I think they're like $160,000) for 8 hours in one day -- for the same price as a guy with various much smaller equipment for 16 hours, stretched over a week. I prefer to get it all done at once, but wondered if the smaller equipment can refine and fine tune better than the D5. There's a lot to do. Which would you choose?

Answer:

The larger equipment can do a better job on the large open area, but you are right, the smaller equipment can fine tune near the house and obstructions safer and easier. If this man owns his equipment he is probably very capable. He might have the skill to leave minimum fine tuning. Talk to both and ask them to tell you how smooth they will get it around the house. Ask if they will leave some work and how much.
Obviously the guy with smaller equipment, unless you're rich and can afford to spend 160,000 in one day.
that price is supper crazy for a day but the smaller equipment can do a better finish
