Question:

2004 Hyundai Sonata transmission?

How much do you think it would cost to buy a used transmission for a 2004 Hyundai Sonata? I‘m not sure if I even need one but it feels like its slipping. Also, if you know of anything to do to fix it before replacing it that would be helpful too. I know NOTHING about cars so anything will help.

Answer:

I adore hardwoods, even in the bedrooms. As far as resale goes, it would probably bring you more dollars to do hardwoods and use area rugs for now. You will never get the wear out of a carpet that you will from a floor with a 50 year guarantee.
Formica makes a flooring system that looks like ceramic tile but isn't. There are 4 tiles per square and it comes in a big variety of tile styles and colors. We have it in the kitchen. We really like it. It is warmer, easy to clean and has held up very well for the last 8yrs. We also like hardwood flooring in the big rooms and carpet in the bedrooms. A friend put in bamboo floors and that looks and feels really nice. I don't know about the cost though. We have tile in our master bathroom. It looks nice but is cold to walk on so you have to add area carpets if you want something warm to stand on.
This is a good question. I can tell you that in an existing house, ceramic tile is difficult for a DIY homeowner to install. If you are considering hiring a contractor to do the work then I would consider tile in the Kitchen, and Baths. I would then consider hardwood elsewhere - Carpet is to hard to keep really clean - if you want to soften some rooms consider area rugs - this also gives you color flexibility for furniture changes, and not having to consider the wall to wall carpet. I am an architect and we ripped out all of our carpet and installed a free floating engineered hardwood in our old house. We did the work ourselves. We love it. Best of luck.

A used transmission will cost $400-1100, call your local junkyard and check OKorder for listings. Since you don't know the problem.call a shop and get a diagnostic run. If you haven't changed the transmission fluid at 60K then try that first, cost you less then $20 to do yourself or $89 at a shop, $169 if they flush it. If you need a new transmission.there is nothing you can do to fix it yourself. Most car transmission replacements run in the $2500 range, definitely worth it considering the car is only a 2004 with 80K on the engine.
