Question:

2006 rabbit check engine light came on after i fixed my flat?

i got a flat yesterday. my boyfriend came and fixed it with the spare that came with the car. its been running fine and no damage could have really resulted from the flat. does the check engine light come on when a spare is on the car??

Answer:

A spare shouldn't make the check engine light come on, even if it's one of those doughnut spares. It must be a coincidence. Quite a few things can make that light come on. Even a loose gas cap.
The check engine light will come on when the computer detects a problem with an engine related sensor, or a reading from an engine related sensor that indicates a problem may be present in the engine, or the engine may not be operating at the highest level of efficiency. While the cause of the check engine light is most likely not your tire change, it could be if you have a Tire pressure monitoring system. Engine codes/lights will remain on untill the code is retreived, and reset, this can only be done with and OBD scanner tool, they are only 30 bucks for really cheapo ones, you can get them at any auto parts store. When you retreive the code, it will tell you what the egine computer is detecting.
Oreilly or MO Shucks can scan your car with a code scanner for free. But yeah there might be something going on with your engine.
