Question:

A question about copper?

How do you get pure copper from raw copper using only heating? Could you tell me the chemical equation as well? I'm trying to figure out how people in eneolithic got copper, meaning there was no modern ways of doing it. I know that they would put raw copper in ceramical pots and then they would heat it up and get pure copper? But I don't understand the whole process.

Answer:

Raw copper can be pure copper. Raw means as it naturally occurs. Copper can exist as a metal in nature because it is not terribly reactive. But it does also sometimes react and there are copper ores in nature. Native copper could be melted in ceramic (if they had them) pots or it could be hammered into many shapes.
