I was wondering how much it costs to recharge a 5 to 10 pound ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher.
Hi. The smoke particles don't absorb the Alpha particles. It is the ionized gas that is neutralized by the smoke particles. In the smoke detector, there is an (open) ionization chamber. The gas inside this chamber gets ionized by the alpha particles from the Americium radiation source. The ions travel to the chamber's electrodes and are detected as an electric current. If smoke enters the ionization chamber, it bonds with the ions and neutralizes them so they no longer travel to the electrodes. The current decreases. This decrease in current is detected by the electronics which sets off the alarm. Hope this helps. A.
you have to have a license to service fire alarm systems (and a ton of experience) it is also illegal to tamper with(NFPA violation). best solution- cover your ears!
