Question:

Firmware update for Canon 7D with usb cable instead of card reader?

I just want to update firmware on my 7D, but I don't know if i can do it without card reader? Thanks for responses :)

Answer:

There are lots of horror stories out there about firmware updates causing the camera to stop working. Be very careful. Good Luck
use the EOS utility to upload the firmware to the camera. the instructions come with the firmware update
If you can setup the camera to think it's a hard drive then you should be able to extract the new firmware onto the drive that's really the camera. Update from there! Of course a few cameras won't allow you to save stuff to their cards via a USB, in which case you'll need to spend a couple of dollars on a card reader!
