Can they both power everything, or do some only power certain things?
AC power is power. OR do you mean AC versus DC power? AC can power AC motors, light bulbs, heaters. DC can power DC motors, electronics (TV, PC, phone, camera etc), light bulbs, heaters AC can be converted to DC via power supplies, and this is what happens inside of TVs, your PC, and battery chargers. DC can be converted to AC via inverters, and this is used in autos to generate AC for appliances. .
