Question:

Air lift bags on a subaru sti.problem?

I‘m about the get a distrobution job and want to buy a 2012-13 sti (not sure yet). I heard people that have sti‘s look down apon doing this to the car. Why is this? What sort of stuff CAN‘T you do because of adding an air lift to the car.the streets suck where I live so I don‘t want to have a low car to get ruined on the streets here. Plus if or when I do get an sti I can lower it when i hang out with friends and stuff I guess.please don‘t comment saying stuff like you ****** you shouldn‘t buy a car if you don‘t know **** about it or anything along the lines of that. Plus my dad is good with cars so he could show me how to put anything on the car I buy.Thanks.

Answer:

Like I Suby above said, but if your wanting to use an inside control to raise lower the car at will, the only bad drawback to that is one, you risk voided your warranty for any type of suspension issues, possibly powertrain issues as well. Also, when you raise lower it too mcuh, you start to affect ride height, camber caster is affected creating issues with bad uneven tire wear. But nothing wrong with your idea, you will need to modify some things to use air bags to do that
Probably because an sti is a car thats supposed to handle well and usually bags don't do much for handling. I think some of the newer systems improve on stock suspension, but I'm not too sure. Do what you want if you get the car. It really doesn't matter cause it sounds like you are not too interested in tracking it anyways.
IF you want them so you can lift and lower the car easily then i don't see why it would be an issue. Only people who know nothing about them think you should not use them. There are some track proven systems out there that will handle just as good as coilovers. Only drawback I know of is the added weight. I will tell you that adjusting height with coilovers isn't that hard though. I and my friends do it every spring and fall and it only takes a half hour or so.
