Have a new house with many plantings front and back yard. Communication with previous owner has been difficult. I would love to find a volunteer who would walk through the garden areas with me to name and label the various species there. I want to weed, but love wildflowers and such, and don't want to take out something of interest. I know I can go to my local university with plant leaves for help with identification, but with so many, it would be a long and tedious process.By the way, my geographic location is northeastern Connecticut. thank you.
call yourCounty Extension office and see if any of the Master Gardeners there would like to come over and give you a hand with this.... I know there's several at ours who would be happy to help... have some tea handy!....
Some times I come up with great answers - Go to the nursing home in your area and take some ladies out who have been gardening all their lives. Their knowledge is the best one can get. You'll get a squishy feeling inside knowing your taking her out for a walk in your garden and listening to her experience - she will love you for it as well and chances are great that you will make a great friend.
A Master Gardener would probably be able to identify most of your plants. Connecticut has a Master Gardener program and the is probably a local Horticultural Society.
Have you thought of contacting your local chapter of Master Gardeners or your local county extensions office I think it would be a great learning tool for all of you (if you were closer I would love to do a walk through since I am a Master Gardener but it is just too far from Connecticut to Montana.) Good Luck!
