Question:

Are performance tires good for wet traction?

I am getting dunlop‘s sp sport 9000‘s for the front of my ‘95 camaro and sp sport maxx for the back of the car.(255‘s for the front and 275‘s for the back). Does anyone if this tires are worth the money when it comes to dry and wet traction? I live in Fresno, CA where it doesn‘t rain a lot, we get about 10 inches of rain per year so I need tires that are great in dry handling but can still handle a little rain.Do performance tires in general offer better dry and wet traction than normal stock tires?

Answer:

Good performance tires will hold well in both, but if it's a dry performance tire, it's not going to be water rated. Basically, a dry performance tire will have large tread blocks and very little void to evacuate water, so it will be easy to hydroplane. However, there's a number of good tires for dry and wet circumstances. I would spend the money on some BFG g-Force T/A KDW's, which, if you look them up, are for Key features: Dry, Wet. And honestly, they are a fantastic tire for dry and wet. Dunlop makes really good motorcycle tires, but not so much for car tires, though the DZ101 is a decent tire now.
I had the sp sports on my car. They're excellent when dry.not great when it rains but hold well enough. Should be fine if you don't lay on the throttle.
