Question:

Are rats not supposed have wheels.?

I know guinea pigs arent supposed to have wheels is it the same for rats. Would they still know what to do with it if they havent seen one or used one before.

Answer:

I agree. The only horsepower gain you get is at the top end of the rpm range, and how often do you drive your street car near the redline? I used to buy a KN direct replacement filter and clean it once a year for my cars, but I'm tired of doing that so I just buy a good Wix or O.E. filter once a year.
a large solid wheel will work well with female rats but male rats are lazy and dont enjoy them. if you have females then you should have a wheel.
I've read places that says they shouldnt have wheels because their tails are too long, but I've also seen rats who use the solid wheels (with no holes in them) without any problems. I'm sure it would be easier if the rats were young and were introduced to using a wheel at that young age. An adult rat might not be interested in using one.
Get an appropriate sized wheel, and some rats will enjoy running on them. Some don't care to use them, though. My girls went nuts for their wheel, while my boys pay no attention to it. 12'' Silent Spinners Wodent Wheels are definitely the best options. :)
