Are trans-axles suitable for towing?

Answer:

more details would help, but i'm assumin you mean a front wheel drive vehicle. the answer is, not really, especially for heavy loads like trailers and such. most trans-axles actually pass the power through a chain at one point. also unless you are towing in reverse, it is better to have the load over the drive wheels in the back. a rear wheel drive setup is alot more durable because there is more steel to bear the load, axles, drive shaft, differential, and tranny, rather than just tranny and cv joints. (cv joints are an especially weak part of a FWD setup cause they gotta turn and pull)
