The ENTIRE detector is either good or bad. The part that attached to the wall is a mounting plate, not an actual part of the detector. FORGET the model you currently have and replace ALL the units with matching detectors. As long as all the NEW units are the same, you will be fine. The only rewiring is inside the box right behind the wall plate.
Take a minute to take your computer outside to a safe spot, then go back inside and under the quilt. Then at least something good will have come from this.
any new smoke detector will work to replace your old oneu can not just buy parts for your old one,,,you shouldn't have any problem installing oneturn off the power before removing the old unitthe new unit should have a black, a white and maybe a red wire.match these wires colors to the same wire colors in the ceilingwhite to white, black to blackno need to hook up the red wire if no red wire is in the ceiling , the red wire is used if u have other smoke detectors in the home, the red wire when hook up will make all the smoke detectors work as one so if there is smoke then they will all go off in the house at the same time
