I believe OEM drives do not come with anything besides the drive itself. So what cable do I need to purchase separately to connect it to my motherboard? The CD/DVD drive is SATA.
A SATA data cable and a SATA power cable. You also need a SATA port on the motherboard. Additional: Bobby, he clearly stated that it is a SATA DVD drive so an IDE cable won't work. Scumbag: thank you for validating my answer by essentially repeating what I said.
Install the DVD drive into an empty 5.25 inch bay. Connect it to either an existing IDE cable. If you do not have an extra tap on the IDE cable that is now in use in your system, just purchase another one. Once you have the correct cable connected to the secondary IDE controller on your motherboard, all that you need to do is make sure that the little jumper on the drive is set correctly. If you have two devices connected to the same IDE cable, then one device must be set to Master and the other to Slave. Now connect the power cable. That should do it. Your computer will now read DVD's. If you wish to record or burn to this drive you will need DVD burning software. OEM drives usually do not come with burning software or cables. The software can be purchased for just about any place that sells software, and the cable can be purchased from anywhere that sells computer supplies. I suggest that you go to one of the smaller repair shops for the cable because they will also advise you on how to connect it and how to set the jumpers. Hope this helps.
You would need a SATA cable.
You need to connect one of the power supply unit's cables to the the drive (only one type of connector will fit) and you will need a SATA data cable to connect the drive to one of the SATA ports on your motherboard
You need the Sata thin cable, that is the same as the Hard drive, and of course, the power cable, which would also be the same.
