Oktoday I was driving and it started to rain so I turned on my windshield wiper.the wipers get stuck in eachother, I pull over and gently untangle them. Afterwards, the windshield wiper tries to work.I can hear the clicking when I turn it on.however there is very little movement. I pulled the hood open to see where the noise is coming from.and it looks like the arm that controls the windshield wiper is broken.it‘s completely severed. 1). How in the world does something like that happen? 2). Does anyone have an idea of how much it will cost to repair it? I drive a ‘98 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Please help! I‘ve spent sooo much money on this stupid car already and I‘m TERRIFIED to take it to a mechanic and see how much it‘s going to cost.I need preparation. HELP!!!!
sounds to me like it may be the motor in the windshield wipers not working properly. This happened to mine a few years ago. I got the parts at an auto wrecker. Paid about 100 bucks in total for them to put it in and buy the parts I needed.
The crank arm on your wiper motor is a complicated little assembly which allows the wipers to park when you turn the wipers off. It does this by lengthening when on and shortening when off. As a by product of this, it is a little bit fragile. Yours broke from wear and tear or because one of your wiper arms came loose on its pivot. When the two arms tangled, the crank arm snapped its fancy mechanism. The crank arm can be replaced seperately from the wiper motor. It needs to be done right because if it isn't put on in the proper orientation, you can break it again, and the entire wiper system needs to be looked at for other damage or bending. Smart money will get you to a good shop or dealer. Good news is you don't need to fret much. Where I live, everytime we get an ice storm or heavy snow, this happens to a lot of folks.
you probobly stripped the threads where the wiper attaches to the wiper motor this could have happened when they got stuck together ypu probably just need a wiper arm-you may want to put a smaller size wiper blade on the passenger side so that it is shorter and does not get caught in the drivers side one hope this helps????
