Would a chestnut suit this rug?
well yeah .. but it won't look good as in the bay horse =D anyways you can dress him any color it's your horse .:)

As long as it fits and does it's job I wouldn't worry - it's going to come back in brown :P
Of course like others have said, any color initially will be fine, aslong as it does the job but if you are looking to make a chesnut stand out. I find purple to be a good color and also green, but make sure you get the right colored green. a medium/dark green , really bright or really dark does not look as good.
