Question:

Can copper sulfate kill?

This boy at my school drank about 50ml - 100ml of copper sulfate - he had to be flown out by a helicopter & he needed a stomach pump - will he die?

Answer:

not unless they were too late. However, this IS a lethal substance- hence the pump. I'm sure that if they reach him in time and expel the Copper Sulphate from his body, he'll be fine. Was he attempting suicide?
CuSO4 is a toxic inorganic compound that is used in pesticides and other formulations. It is not a good idea to drink it although it may look tasty. Quick treatment will normally minimize the health problems that a person may have because of ingestion. There are other chemicals that are much worse.
Doubtful if he received immediate attention. However, copper(II) ions are quite dangerous. At high enough levels, all transition metal ions are toxic. Copper in particular can act as an electron carrier, due to the relative ease with which it can switch between +1 and +2 oxidation states. However, with quick action and the timely administration of an antidote (or a metal complexant that allows the metal to be removed) it can be treated satisfactorily.
Copper sulfate can be toxic, but not in that amount, especially in solution like that. That amount isn't deadly, although he probably got quite sick, but it's not a good idea to ingest any lab chemicals.
