Ok, here is food for thought: When the seat is left up by ANYONE and the toilet flushed in the open position, all that waste aerosols into the air spreading that wonderful mess onto your hand towels, tooth brushes, hair brushes, ect. So you wash your hands and dry them on a towel that has just been contaminated with what you washed off of your hands. Good enough reason to close the toilet completely? Satisfies all in my home, men and women. Seats down (pun intended:, hands down)
