We have a smart car and I turned it on in our garage for a little bit to play with the sound system because I was trying to make our phones work with it. Later my mom tells me that the check engine light is on and she is worried. Could there be a connection between the two?
Yes. The O2 sensor will have trouble dealing with the increase in CO2 inside a garage. But you never should have done that because it is very bad for your cardio vascular system. It takes weeks for the carbon monoxide to get out of your blood. Not at all a good idea. But take the car to a place like Autozone to have the codes read and the light reset. You took days, if not weeks, off your life.
Not really. If emission levels in the garage got to that point that it set off a sensor, it would also have been high enough to harm if not kill you. Suggestion.don't do that again. Open the Garage next time just so you don't get Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Your best bet is to take it in to an Autozone or Advance Auto Parts where they'll put their diagnostic device onto your car (for free) and tell you what the problem is. They can reset the light and if it stays off, you're fine. If it comes back then have a mechanic replace whatever part was indicated as having a fault.
