Being anti-organized religion doesn't mean your perceptions aren't tainted by religion. It just means you might not realize they are. Yes, the universe is expanding. Everywhere we look, everything is moving away from everything else. And every other part of space sees the exact same thing. Think of a sheet of rubber being streched in every direction - every point sees every other point moving away.
