Car engine motor oil additives?
The only requirement is to use oil that meets the specifications for your car. Look in your owner's manual. I always recommend synthetic oil. It doesn't break down like conventional so it lasts longer. It has been formulated to lubricate more completely and evenly than conventional oils, making your engine last longer and run more efficiently. And most importantly, use a quality oil filter, not one of those from Wal Mart or the standard filter at the oil change joint.
car makers generally say to use a quality oil (that meets their specifications) and that no ADDITIONAL additives are needed. refiners/makers include their own formulas of additives in their oils, such as detergents, viscosity stabilizers, etc. if you change your oil regularly with a quality oil (such as castrol) your engine internals are clean and don't need any extra additives. when an engine has been neglected and is full of sludge, the old garageman's trick was to add a lot of cleaner (like rislone) that were primarily kerosene to clean them out. when engines are very, very worn, additives like STP were used to thicken the oil to compensate for the wear. a properly maintained modern engine should go 200,000+ miles and never need any additive.
plain and simple. that oil is not considered an additive. you bought it. it's good oil. correct weight? use it. you wanna stay away from those single bottle additives that change oil viscosity. the oil in Q will not do that. not a nissan guy, but my guess is that this engine maybe of variable valve timing. that would be the main reason to not mess with oil viscosity. cam advance relies on oil, in part, to function.
