Question:

Car steering wheel problem?

My dad‘s 1999 Nissan Maxima got some problem. It ran fine this morning. But when my dad started the car in the evening the steering wheel acts weird. The steering wheel gets turned to the right by force and when I tried to turn it back I hear a little screech from the right front wheel and feels like something is pulling it the opposite way. That was on parking position. When on reverse the become more normal but need to use some force to turn the wheel back to the correct position. Any idea on what‘s going on?

Answer:

almost sounds like you have a brake issue, maybe a brake hose has collapsed on itself. Does the car feel very sluggish? There are a few different parts in your suspension too but its hard to tell without looking at the car myself.
Check your power steering belt, without it you lose all assisted steering. If the belt is in place and the fluid level is good you may have a bad steering pump.
lift the cars front end and see if you can move the steering wheel freely. that will eliminate the steering gear. after that inspect your tires for conage if your alignment is out and has been for some time the tires will become coned and pull to one side. if the tires are coned either replace the tires or do a tire rotation and get an alignment done.
