Question:

check engine light on?

I drive a Auto 02 corolla with 120,000 miles. when the check engine light came on back in may, friend drove it to the shop for 2 days to fix. After i got it back i was told the exhaust pipe needs to be replaced(or something with the exhaust system i wasn‘t there) so the CEL dissapeared for a week then came back on, i been driving it with the CEL on since may, it makes very loud noise when i step on the gas pedal. should i keep driving it? it doesnt affect the engine right? Thanks

Answer:

If the Check engine light is on get is scanned and then see what the code means. Alot of times people just guess and problems can look the same to the untrained eye, the codes will give you a direction to look in. Don't wait get it scanned.
I would have it scanned with an ODB II code reader. It will tell you the problem. A hole in your exhaust can let cold air into your head and warp a valve.
sometimes an exhaust leak will trigger the oxygen sensor. that turns the CEL on. since the computer knows something is wrong the car tends to act different and you lose gas mileage. best to get it repaired and the car will last longer.
Youre a feisty albino, aren't ya? My sports car always has an alarm, and yass, sometimes it does go off if theres a vibration or a loud car that drives pass it. Wanna hang out sometimes? That is if that's really your pix. What?
