Question:

Christianity and Blood Cord banking?

Im a Christian and pregnant with my first child. Ive been thinking about blood cord banking and whether or not it would be TRUSTING God with the health of your child by only relying on His power by not getting banking or PLAYING God by banking the blood.im interested to hear what other CHRISTIANS have to say about this. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE SOME SARCASTIC ANSWER as this is very important to me. Thanks.

Answer:

I don't think that it's playing God at all because thanks to God we have the medical advances today that can help us save lives. I briefly considered chord blood banking but have since changed my mind because of the high price of banking the chord blood. My doctor agrees that it's really pricey to have it around as a just in case. You are able to donate the chord blood to science so that others may benefit from it and not pay for the banking.
I don't think it would be a bad thing to keep it I mean God says trust in me but if there was to be something wrong with your baby and the chord blood was what was going to keep your baby alive and you decided not to them that would be very bad. But maybe God is telling you to keep the chord blood for that reason. But if you really want to know if that is what he wants then you need to pray about it and listen carefully for God to speak to you. ( I'm not trying to scare you, sorry if I did)
God gives people the talents and abilities to create things like blood cord banking. Yes, I believe you should trust in God to protet your child but God also gave you a brain to use, the capability to make decisions, and he gave someone else the ability to create technology that doesn't leave you waiting for a miracle to help cure/heal your child. I think you should bank the blood and pray to God that you never have to use it.
Do you ever use medication?? Or do you just trust God will heal you with any medical intervention? Do you not believe that God allows the advance in medicine so more people can be helped? I do not see a conflict here, however, I am not convinced about all the hype around cord blood. I know everything breakdown overtime, so how can the blood survive 10-20 or even more years?
I am a christian and I would say do whatever feels right. God's trusting you with the child shows he believes you are capable of caring for him/her in whatever means necessary. By doing the banking you are not turning your back on God, rather taking advantage of technological advancements available to best care for his precious gift. I know that it seems to conflict but if your child was sick and needed help, God would not frown upon you for seeing a doctor, this is the same. You are only playing God when you attempt to clone your child or manipulate or mutate him/her. You are doing the right thing either way, by simply trying to follow His rules to raise the child as best you can, so don't be scared to follow medical advancements. God Bless you and your family and congratulations!!
