Question:

Cold Air or Ram Air Intake?

ok guys i have a 02 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.4 L (MT)ive done alot of exterior (body kits, lights, spoiler, borla exhaust system. well want to put air intake, but which one is the right choice? cold air is good but can cause hydrolock, ram air is good but i believe can over heat? going by what friends tell me. what is the best option and brand to get.

Answer:

Kragen has a Cold Air Intake design kit. It's a bunch of plastic tubes you connect together to design the intake. The kit is $10 or so. Then you can order the actual aluminum component parts and assemble the intake. It shouldn't cost more than 40-60$. Yes, it can hydrolock so either don't drive in the rain or get a water bypass valve to connect in-line with the intake. There is no right or wrong brand. It's all in the filter and the number of bends in the piping. If you're in California you must purchase a carb-approved (search dmv website) intake.
My stylist uses and swears by Chi. I actually bought a corioliss and it was awesome! You can get one for a great price on EBay. You can get the Chi too but make sure it is the iron you are buying and not chi styling gel with a no name iron.
I LOVE my chi and wouldn't trade it for the world.
actually the best bet is to just use the stock system and put a high flow filter in it like a KN, as with the cold air intake you are drawing hot air off the engine compartment so it doesn't work as good as everyone thinks, actually the ram air is the best as your getting cold air from outside but you will probably end up having to change to a differen't 02 sensor as the engine is getting more air and will throw off your fuel mixture and will probably run worse until you get it regulated.
