Question:

Cutting through diamond with copper?

I was talking with some **** and was rambling on about guys cutting through diamond with copper. So i punched him in his copper loving face! But btw is suck a thing possible' i mean the diamond thing? I really doubt it.

Answer:

I can only really envision one possibility, but it would be so cost prohibitive that it would never be implemented. Besides that.....no.
first off, congratulations on punching him in his copper loving face, copper is a relatively soft metal, its a 3 on the 'mohs scale' diamond on the other hand is the worlds hardest natural substance, at number 10 on the 'mohs scale' so NO. its impossible, you were right, he was wrong. the copper blade would literally melt from the friction if it were spinning fast enough to try and cut a piece of diamond. today modern day diamond cutters may use lasers and 3D computer imaging to cut diamonds into specific shapes. although most diamonds are still cut and polished using diamond edged saws and scaifs. a scaif is a grinding wheel covered in tiny diamond dust pieces, covered in oil.
