Question:

Dana 44 Front Axle Gearing?

Hey therePicked up a Dana 44 Front from a ‘77 Waggy to install into a ‘90 YJ. Looking to ditch the stock ring and pinion in favor of a 4.56 ratio. Do I need to pick up anything else other than the new 4.56 ring and pinion set and the install/overhaul kit with all the bearings for my new gears? I saw some note about going to higher gears requires a new carrier or something like that. I haven‘t done one of these before, and would appreciate any advice. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Answer:

examine around for community bone yards or somebody upgrading from dana 44s to dana 60s in the community rock crawlers bulletin boards. you're able to even attempt some from steer away from adult adult males too considering in addition they had a 5 on 5.5 bolt development
Sometimes higher ratios will need a new carrier but you will have to check with the people selling you the gears. Usually reputable dealers will tell you when you will need the new carrier or not.
