Question:

details of Electronics Systems Engineering in automotive industry.?

What exactly do the people in such industry do? please any ideas.

Answer:

It starts with the battery charge system and the starter system, that's the highest power. Then lighting, they are looking at providing a ring main for power and using a signal bus to tell the lights to come on, the drive is to reduce wiring. They are also looking at moving to 42v which will reduce current, allowing thinner wire, and less metal and weight. Next would be the lighting, headlights are moving to alternative technologies to reduce power and increase illumination, they are also going for self leveling and steering. Then there's the fun stuff, powertrain control, transmission and engine management systems. Then there's the telematics, all the signalling that goes round the car, the ABS, traction control, stability control, anti rollover system. Entertainment systems, integrated telephone technologies, navigation, guidance and all that. Some are even suggesting giving the cars direct internet access. Any one of those things is many man years of development and testing for a hardware and software team.
Not too long ago, they didn't do much of anything. With the advent of integrated circuits and computer controls - they design and program everything from anti-lock brake systems to complete engine control systems, computerized GPS systems, suspensions, air bag supplemental restraint systems, on board diagnostic capabilities, automatic just about everything and recorded black box capabilities. The future we may see computerized steering, auto crash avoidance systems and who knows what else.
