Under the sink there is what is called a trap, its the funny 'S' bent pipe, sometimes you can unscrew the fittings by hand if not use a pipe wrench, make sure you have a bucket or pot under the trap as you remove it there will be water in it. This should allow you to remove all the things your kids have lost in the last few years.Put it back together and run some water through and watch for leaks and you should be good to go.
Be thankful for front-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive is much less fun. Also, be thankful you didn't hit anyone. :) I know spinning halfway around is not fun, but it's just a part of driving in the winter sometimes. Nobody does anything different here where I'm from. . . a part of the country where 3-4+ probably gets the kids off school for a day, but generally not 1-2. We generally just keep driving on the same standard set of tires unless they're definitely getting worn. Really, all you probably need is just to drive carefully with whatever you've got.
