Question:

Do I need a jack stand to lift up one wheel on my car?

I‘m going to be doing some work and was wondering if the factory equipped jack could hold up one wheel.

Answer:

Only if you are doing something minor like changing a tire. Anything more serious like brake work, the vehicle needs to be supported better. Reason is if the vehicle gets pushed while it's on a single jack it will topple off, and potentially kill you. When I was young and broke I didn't have any axle stands, but used some large wooden rounds of un-split firewood. Jack car up, slide those under the suspension or axle, and let the jack down. Now safe to work on.
If you are going to have any part of your body under it, bad idea. If it's just to remove a wheel, or work on brakes, sure. If the wheel comes off, I tend to throw it under the car so that if the lifting device happens to fail, the car won't come down (at least immediately) to the ground, possibly pinching or trapping you in place. Edit: And there is a difference between a jack and jackstands. The OEM did not provide you with jackstands, only a jack. Jackstands are to hold the vehicle up for longer periods of time.
I don't even trust a factory car jack to change a tire with.
