Question:

Do things like the drivetrain have to change in putting in a suspension system?

A mechanic I was talking to said that anything over two inches will cause in havin to change many other things I was just wondering if anyone had an answers?

Answer:

It depends on whether you are raising or lowering the vehicle. If you're lowering it, it requires no change in the drivetrain. If you are raising it to put bigger tires or very large rims that increase weight or grip on the ground (i.e. mud tires), you will have to beef up the transmission. They make a kit to extend the steering linkage.
He is correct. The steering linkage will need to be modified, as will the driveline angle with more than 2. Even with only a 2 lift, the u-joints will want to bind some, and the steering linkage won't last long.
