Question:

Do you know how or even why one windshield wiper would just quit working on a 2002 Cadillac DeVille DHS?

I haven't had any real problems with this car at all and all of a sudden the wiper quit working. The weird thing about it is that the broken one is manually movable but the one that does work won't move at all if you push on it. How can I fix this or do I have to take it in to the dealership?

Answer:

Each wiper arm is connected to a gearbox, sometimes called a transmission. They can break or strip. Not too easy to replace on most cars, but not impossible. I would just let a mechanic handle it. You can buy a used one. This has nothing to do with the transmission that moves the car if you're totally car ignorant. No offense.
Yes, that is in the realm of possibility, but it would be difficult to pinpoint when the damage happened. It might have broken at that pothole you hit 100 yards before turning into the inspection center.
if just one wiper stops most likely either its striped or loose
the wiper motor is shot, a fuse blown or the arm is off the motor.
