They are very similar, both have advantages of fireproofness, sound and thermal insulation. While the glass wool has better sound insulation performance, and the rock wool has better fireproofness. The glass wool is white, and the rock wool is gray.
Glass wool is sound and thermal insulation materials with no rigidity, and is generally placed between two mineral wools. It is used when soundproofing requirements are relatively high. Mineral wool is commonly known as mineral wool board and generally with rigidity. Usually monolayer steel studs are filled with mineral wool boards which have advantages of sound and thermal insulation, fireproofness.
Generally, rock wool is the filling materials.
Relatively glass wool of famous brand is more environmentally friendly. Rock wool has larger particles. They all have good thermal insulation and sound absorption performance, but are not recommended to use them both. The proportion of glass wool used is smaller than that of rock wool in terms of the same sound absorption performance. It may contains asbestos.
