I absolutly would have to say the granite. It is more stain resistant than quartz. Quartz is more likely to soak up wine, or jelly faster than granite, if the granite does at all. Granite is harder and just more durable, but of course, more expensive. But it adds value to your home and when it comes time to sell it is considered an upgrade. I haven't ran across to many quartz countertops.
I've never had granite but I do have quartz and I love it. It is lower maintenance than granite. My house is only 4 years old but so far we've never had a problem with stains (it's a cookie dough w/flecks color). I know spilled beverages have gone unnoticed on the counter overnight and have caused no problems. Jelly certainly would not seep in. I wouldn't let spilled wine sit on it or anything, but otherwise, I don't do anything special to it. In fact, we're probably pretty hard on it (I have 2 kids). I like the look of it just as well as the granite. I have nothing against granite. I personally don't think it's worth so much more money when the look and functionality is essentially the same.
There are engineered stones made of quartzite and a bonding agent that eclipse granite in durability and maintenance. They're consistent in color, scratch resistant and non-absorbent, unlike granite. The downside of engineered stone is that you don't have the depth and color nuances that you'd find in natural stone, but if you want a surface that you'd never have to worry about again, there's no comparison!
