Question:

Does tire balloon size drastically effect fuel consumption in motorcycles?

I‘ve heard that Tire balloon sizes drastically effect fuel consumption on vehicles (motorcycles), that means if i increase the balloon size on my bikes tires, there will be a huge change of fuel consumption, something like, previously it did 45 Kilometers per liter and after going one balloon size up, it has gone down to something like 30 - 35 KM-PL. Can this happen? is it true? How big is the difference? Previously i thought it effects only 1 to 2KM max, something like taking off the baffles. Please en-light me with your wisdomMany blessings

Answer:

They can hook up a scanner to it and clear the codes. Try and go to Auto Zone. They scan your car for free and will let you know if there is a problem. If they can do that, they should be able to clear the code and make it go off. It could just be on for a pcv valve or something. Your car may be running fine but I would find out. Like I said, just go to Auto Zone, have them scan, and then ask them to clear all codes. If they won't do it you can take it to a mechanic but will probably cost you $25 or so.
Looks like you answered your own question from the information in your explanation. Changing tire size is not generally a recommended practice, especially if the manufacturer of the cycle does not list that size as compatible. The characteristic most affecting mileage from tires is air pressure, second only to your throttle hand and riding habits. Which brings me to ask why so many cyclists gun their little motors so much? Is that really absolutely necessary? VROOM! VROOM! VROOM! VROOM! drinks gas, too.
Well first of all how can you be sure that there is nothing wrong with it? Many failures in the emission system can go undetected, such as a bad oxygen sensor. Go to your neasrest Auto zone, Advanced auto etc and ask them to check a code for you, they will do it for free. If there is no code, then try disconnecting your battery overnight to clear the code.
What is tire balloon size? I have been riding motorcycles for over 40 years and never heard that term before. In general, higher pressures give better fuel consumption.
Changing tire size can change milage, but minimally, and I mean on a bike, it would be hard to measure. You'd lose more MPG by running low pressure.
